This subject provides an integrated study of the main areas of business - Marketing, Human Resource Management, Finance and Economics.You will develop skills in analysis and evaluation of case studies.There is no coursework.
Entry Requirements
Students should have gained 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Mathematics or G.N.V.Q. Intermediate Business (Merit) plus English and Maths.
Course Content
AS Unit 1: Planning & Financing a Business 1hr 15 mins exam
This unit involves the study of the challenges and issues of starting a business. The
accounting section emphasises the use of financial information as an aid to decision
making and financial control.
AS Unit 2: Managing a Business 1 hr 30 mins exam
This unit involves the study of management theories in relation to motivation and
leadership. Management and organisation structures for a business are studied in
relation to people in an organisation. Operations Management focuses on the way
organisations use inputs and manage business processes efficiently. It includes marketing
and a section on finance.
A2 Unit 3: Strategies for Success 1 hr 45 mins exam
This unit includes work from the AS syllabus, but in addition communication,
employer/employee relations, human resource management, controlling of productive
operations, efficiency and industrial location.The unit studies market analysis, strategy
and planning.The finance section includes company accounting, ratio analysis, and
investment decision making.
A2 Unit 4:The Business Environment & Managing Change 1 hr 45 mins exam
This unit comprises external business influences which affect decision making and the
ability of organisations to meet their objectives. Management of change, planning for
change, and corporate strategies, aims and objectives are studied.
