Government and Politics (Edexcel)
Students learn about the institutions which form Parliamentary government in the UK, with reference to devolution and the European Union. Electoral systems, the constitution, political parties and pressure groups will also be studied. The subject fits well with History, English, Law, Sociology and Media Studies. Students go on to university or varied employment fields.

Five GCSEs, including English Language at grade C and an interest in current affairs.
Course Content
AS Unit 1: People and Politics 1 hr 20 mins exam
This unit involves the study of politics by looking at the central ideas of citizenship, democracy and participation, and by examining the representative processes in the UK.
AS Unit 2: Governing the UK 1 hr 20 mins exam
An introduction to the major political institutions of UK government, their relationship with one another and consideration of their effectiveness.
AS Unit 3: Introducing Political Ideologies 1 hr 30 mins exam
Introducing political ideologies; liberalism, conservatism, socialism and anarchism.
A2 Unit 4: Other Ideological Traditions 1 hr 15 mins exam
An examination of the ideological traditions that have developed out of, or have emerged in opposition to, liberalism, conservatism and feminism, environmentalism and multiculturalism.
