Further Mathematics (Edexcel)
If you enjoy Maths and are planning to study AS or A Level Maths then you should consider studying Further Maths. Further Maths is a challenging but interesting and rewarding subject to study at A Level. If you want to be successful you must be prepared to work hard and devote a considerable amount of time to your study but the work can be very enjoyable.
Further Maths is highly regarded by universities and many employers. It is a useful passport for entry on to university courses in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering and Physics and is highly desirable for courses in Computer Science, Pure and Applied Sciences, Economics, Business Studies and Accounting.
Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at grade C or above including GCSE Maths at Grade A or A*.You will also need to be studying or have studied AS and/or A2 Level Mathematics.
Course Content
AS
One compulsory unit:
Further Pure Mathematics 1 1 hrs 30 mins exam
This unit covers complex numbers, numerical solutions of equations, co-ordinate systems, matrix algebra, series and proof.
Two other units chosen (by the tutor) from Further Pure Maths, Statistics, Decision Maths, or Mechanics. Content available on request.
Each unit is assessed by a 1 hour 30 mins exam.
A2
One compulsory unit in Further Pure Maths (if not taken in AS) and one/two other
unit(s) from Statistics, Decision Maths or Mechanics.
Each unit is assessed by a 1 hour 30 mins exam.
