Sociology (AQA)
Students will acquire the essential knowledge and understanding of central aspects of sociological thought and methods, together with the application of a range of skills.The course allows the integration of sociological themes, such as socialisation, culture and identity and social differentiation.
Entry Requirements
Students should have gained 5 GCSEs at grade C, including English Language.
Course Content
AS Unit 1: Families and Households 1 hr exam
The relationship of the family to the social structure, looking at conjugal roles, marriage, divorce and childhood.
AS Unit 2: Education and Sociological Methods 2 hr exam
The role and purpose of education, including vocational education and training. Educational policies, teacher pupil relationships, the application of sociological research methods to the study of education.
Sociological methods include research methods, sources of data, theoretical and practical considerations.
AS Unit 3: Beliefs in Society 1 hr 30 mins exam
Different theories of religion ideology, science and religion; religious beliefs and organisations; the significance of religion in the contemporary world.
A2 Unit 4: Crime and Deviance 2 hr exam
Different theories of crime, deviance, social order and social control. The connections between sociological theory and methods and the study of crime and deviance.
