BTEC Business Level 2 Extended Certificate
A BTEC First in Business is a nationally recognised work-related qualification designed to provide you with a choice of routes into further education or employment. It is made up of units.
If you wish to continue studying business in a vocational context, you may consider a related BTEC National course, such as business or e-commerce.
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at least grade D along with a keen interest and motivation to learn. Students without any formal qualifications may apply through diagnostic assessment.
Course Content
The course is divided up into units which will enable you to learn about different aspects of business which will include:
- The principles of starting a business - you will investigate the aims and objectives that a business could have.
- Business planning.
- The different types of legal structures e.g. sole trader, partnership, LTD.
You will also:
- consider factors that will influence the choice of location of a business.
- investigate how businesses organise their staff and define their job roles.
- study how employers motivate their staff.
- be required to explore your own skills and personality while reflecting on your potential as a future employee by considering your own personal attributes.
- explore how businesses carry out customer research in order to identify and understand the needs of their customers and attempt to meet them.
- investigate how businesses use marketing activities to try and establish an advantage over their competitors.
- consider the meaning and importance of customer service.
Every business needs to manage its finances. If it does not manage its finances successfully then the business is likely to fail. You will consider the elements of business finance: sources of business finance, costs and break-even, financial statements and financial planning and forecasting.
Method of Assessment
Your tutor will set assignments throughout your course for you to complete. These may take a variety of forms, from reports and presentations to posters and interviews. Your assignments will be graded as pass, merit or distinction.
