Is this the right course for me?

If you are passionate about a career in barbering, this course will be the starting point giving you the basic skills and knowledge you need to enable you to progress to a Level 3 diploma in barbering or hairdressing.

You will learn how to take a client on a journey from entering the salon to carrying out a range of different cutting and styling techniques and recommending the correct products for them to use.

You will also learn about the importance of health and safety in the salon and how to deliver a first class service to customers – all of which will enable you to gain a job in the industry or progress to a higher level qualification.

To give you the opportunity to gain experience of working in the industry and improve the skills you are learning, you will be required to complete a 30 hour placement during the course and will be responsible for finding your placement and liaising with the company to discuss requirements and suitable dates.

You will also be required to bring clients into the college’s Academy training salon to enable you to complete your assessments.

Throughout the course you will have weekly meetings with your career coach who will provide support and guidance and discuss any concerns that you may have. You will also have weekly I-Study sessions where you will work through online resources to support your knowledge and understanding.

The course will also give you the opportunity to improve your English and maths skills – both important elements required by employers – as well as learning about British values, and you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence which requires assignment writing and the use of IT.

We offer a fantastic, well-designed working salon environment supported by our inspirational and experienced staff who will help you to develop your skills and knowledge.

You will have the chance to take part in local and national competitions - such as Wella Exposure – visit the Salon International exhibition in London, and take part in other enrichment activities which will give you further experience of the industry and look good on your CV.
