Certificate in Horticulture (QCF) L3 - (Horticulture: BTEC Edexcel Level 3 Garden Design Certificate)

This is a one year course studied over one day per week based at the Cedars Horticultural Centre.

The course is a one year part- time programme that provides specialist work-related study covering the key knowledge and practical skills required for the garden design sector.

The qualification offers an engaging programme and is suitable for those entering the horticultural industry and those already employed within the industry looking to update their skills and knowledge; it is aimed at producing people that can work at a supervisory or management level or who  want to progress onto higher level qualifications.

The qualification consists of three units which include plant identification and use, plus two garden design specialist units.

During this course you will be preparing to present garden designs at a national garden show that will be judged by The Royal Horticultural Society.

Entry Requirements

The qualification provides a natural progression from the Horticulture Level 2 Diploma or is suited to full time students with 4 GCSE’s at grade C or above. The learner will need to demonstrate a strong interest in Horticulture, Landscaping or garden design and a desire to put their training into practice. Students will also be asked to attend a short informal interview and undertake an initial assessment in Basic Skills.

Unit 7: Undertake identification, selection and use of ornamental plants

Unit 8: Understand the principles and practices of landscape and garden design

Unit 35: Prepare landscape and garden design briefs

Assessments are structured seasonally through Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer work.

What can I do next?

After successfully completing this courses you can progress on to HNC/D Amenity horticulture or Foundation Degree in Amenity Horticulture

This course will set you on the right path for a career in amenity horticulture; specifically working in the garden design industry at  a management/ supervisory level.

After completing this course you can find employment as a garden designer, horticulturalist, landscape gardener.
