Certificate in Practical Horticulture L2 - (Horticulture: RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture)
This is a one year course studied over 3 ½ hours per week at the Cedars Horticulture Centre.
This course is ideal if you want to follow a career path in landscaping, gardening or related horticulture areas, or want to develop your horticultural practical skills.
This course is aimed at those wishing to develop their Horticultural knowledge, focusing on the practical skills need to work in amenity horticulture. It is ideal for adult learners.
Entry Requirements
The qualification provides a natural progression from the Horticulture Level 1 Diploma or certificate. The learner will need to demonstrate a strong interest in Horticulture or Landscaping and a desire to put their training into practice. Students will also be asked to attend a short informal interview and undertake an initial assessment in literacy and numeracy skills
Course Content
The qualification consists of six core units and one optional covering the following subject areas:
- Soil testing (1 credit)
- Sowing seeds and vegetative propagation techniques (2 credits)
- Practical skills in ground preparation for seeding and planting (2 credits)
- Practical skills in establishing seeds and plants in soil (2 credits)
- Care and pruning of plants (3 credits)
- Identification of a range of common garden plants, weeds, pests, diseases and disorders and beneficial organisms (3 credits)
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by means of a range of practical activities timetabled and assessed within the centre.
What can I do next?
After successfully completing this courses you can progress on to:
- RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Garden Planning, Establishment and Maintenance
- Level 3 diploma in horticulture
