City of Wolverhampton EA
City of Wolverhampton College, along with many other public bodies is required to undertake and publish analysis of the effect of Policies and Practices and the likely effect of proposed policies and practices in the furtherance of their public sector equality duty.
The 2010 Equality act has identified 9 groups usually referred to as "protected characteristics" against which discrimination is illegal. These are:
- Sex (Male & Female)
- Religion / Belief (including none beliefs)
- Race / ethnicity OR nationality
- Marriage and Civil Partnership
- Gender re-assignment
- Sexual orientation
- Age
- Disability
- Pregnancy / Maternity
The main purpose of equality analysis is to pre-empt the possibilities that existing, revised or new policies, procedures, practices or programmes do not have an unfavourable effect on any particular group or groups.
Equality Analysis outcomes are also a key feature within the Ofsted inspection framework and as such are a priority for the College as well as a major contributor to the College’s commitment to equality & diversity and social justices and public sector equality duty.
