BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT TECHIQUES

Why take on an Apprentice?

We're going through unprecedented economic times, so there has never been a more important moment to maximise what you've got as a company and increase profitability. Your greatest asset is your people.

Continuous business improvement techniques help to further develop your staff’s skills and potential, as well as streamline the business’ practices.

"Productivity", "Lean Thinking", "Continuous Improvement" and "Waste" are all terms synonymous with the Manufacturing and Engineering sectors; but with more pressure on companies than ever before, these tools are now being adopted on a wider scale, with Public and Service sectors using them more and more to help reduce costs, whilst ultimately achieving more value for their customers.

This Apprenticeship provides individuals with appropriate knowledge and understanding of systems and processes so they can improve their daily working tasks; which provides opportunities to learn new skills and techniques as well as practical experience. The principle is to work smarter, not harder.

Apprenticeships are a tested way of training either a new or existing team member. An Apprenticeship will provide on-the-job training which leads to an employee gaining a nationally-recognised qualification which has been developed by the sector skills council SEMTA.

This programme assists an organisation’s productivity by applying the tools and techniques of continuous improvement. The implementation of a continuous improvement policy requires the organisation to focus its attention on improving its processes by the elimination of all forms of waste, (which is defined as anything that does not add value for the customer) reduced variation and defect prevention. It is essential that the improvements are maintained through the standardisation and continuous monitoring of the new operations via the Apprenticeship framework.

The Apprenticeship Programme

This Apprenticeship includes: a knowledge-based element, a competence based element, transferable skills and Employment Rights and Responsibilities. The Level 2 Diploma in Business Improvement Techniques covers a variety of topics including: complying with statutory regulations and organisation safety requirements, contributing to effective team working, continuous improvement techniques (Kaizen) and the development of visual management systems. It also has a range of optional units to suit your business needs. These include: lead time analysis, set-up reduction techniques, problem solving techniques, flow process analysis and the creation of standard operating procedures (SOP). The knowledge-based element centres around health and safety in the workplace. Key Skills are also an integrated part of the programme and equip Apprentices with the skills to function effectively as members of an adaptable, flexible and competitive workforce.
