CHILDCARE
Why take on an Apprentice?
The children and young people’s workforce is being transformed. In five years’ time all childcare practitioners will be expected to have, or to be working towards, a minimum level 3 qualification, which is broadly equal to an A-level.
The Apprenticeship programme can help you ensure your business is ready for these changes, ensuring you have the talented, skilled people you need to help the country’s young reach their full potential.
Apprentices learn on-the-job, working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job Apprentices receive training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
Research has highlighted that employers offer Apprenticeship places because they understand the benefits that Apprentices bring to their business - increased productivity, improved competitiveness and a committed and competent work-force.
The Apprenticeship Programme
Children’s Care Learning and Development Apprenticeships are growing in popularity, with more and more employers seeing them as the ideal way to train their staff.
The Apprenticeship has been developed to ensure that Early Years Practitioners are skilled and knowledgeable in all aspects of childcare practice, to enable them to carry out their work effectively and to ensure that they understand the development and needs of children.
Apprentices earn a wage and work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Off the job, on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training at the college to work towards nationally recognised qualifications and receive tuition.
The Level 2 Apprenticeship is for those working under supervision such as a nursery assistant or playgroup assistant working with children under five or an assistant playworker in an out of school setting.
Apprentices working towards the Level 3 Certificate in Children’s Care Learning and Development will be working on their own initiative, planning and organising their own work or supervising others, for example, as a nursery nurse, playgroup leader or a childminder working in their own home.
