Futures High Needs – Career Tasters
For all young people on the Futures High Needs programme there is an opportunity to spend some time in a range of different college areas to get a taste of what doing a course in that subject would be like and whether it is the career for them.
Each career taster session will be for two-hours per week for six weeks during one half-term.
Sessions will be held at the Metro One campus in the city centre which has industry-standard hair and beauty salons that are open to the public. Young people will be able to observe staff and students at work, have a go at certain salon-based activities, and experience what it would be like to study a full-time Level 1 course.
Based in the modern construction centre at the Wellington Road campus the young person will carry out basic tasks in each area, learn how to use tools, and find out what topics would be covered on a full-time Level 1 course.
Sports and Fitness Working alongside students on the Futures Pathways to Sport and Leisure programme young people will get the change to take part in weekly practical sports activities to give them a taste of what they would study on a full-time Level 1 sports course.
Caring for a baby and parenting awareness will be covered to give young people an idea of some of the units they would study on a full-time Level 1 early years course.
As ICT is an increasingly essential part of everyday life young people will not only gain experience of using a computer but will also find out about the topics they would study on a full-time Level 1 ICT course.
