Hospitality Apprenticeship: Student Guide

The hospitality trade is one of the biggest employment sectors in the UK and needs 855,000 new staff by 2017 to replace those leaving the industry.

This Apprenticeship will help you embark on a dynamic, fast moving and exciting career in the service sector. You will develop a range of skills that will equip you to work in a varied range of areas within the hospitality industry, such as in restaurants, hotels and holiday accommodation, cafés, pubs, and contract caterers.

The Apprenticeship Framework

There are three main strands to an Apprenticeship, known as the Framework: a competence-based element, a technical element and a skills element.

Intermediate Apprenticeship: You will gain your Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality Services and Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles. You will look at health and hygiene in the workplace, food handling, working effectively as part of a team and customer service.

Advanced Apprenticeship: You will achieve a Level 3 Diploma in Supervision and Leadership and an Award in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership. Modules of study include supporting team members, working relationships, control of resources, health and hygiene, safety and security of the working environment and team leadership.
