COLLEGE APPRENTICE SELECTED FOR NATIONAL COMPETITION
An apprentice from City of Wolverhampton College has been selected for a prestigious national apprentice competition.
Mitchell Evans, who is studying towards his NVQ in Plumbing and Heating, has been put forward for the HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year.
The 19-year-old will be taking part in the regional heat at Stephenson College, Leicestershire, on February 17, when he will be competing against representatives from 13 other colleges. The winner will secure a place in the national final in Cheltenham in April.
Mitchell said: “I’m delighted to be selected for this competition and I’m sure it will be a great experience!”
Apart from the accolade of being crowned UK Heating Apprentice of the Year, the winner is set to walk away with a prize worth £5,000 donated by the competition’s platinum sponsor Adey.
Launched in 2009, the HIP UK Apprentice of the Year competitions gives Level 2 and 3 students who are doing an apprenticeship the chance to be recognised for their hard work and skills.
Celia Matthews, competition organiser, said: “Students get a lot out of the event. They make new friends, gain confidence in their abilities and enjoy the challenge of the competition.”
