COLLEGE SELECTED TO OFFER PRESTIGIOUS ARTS COURSES
City of Wolverhampton College’s Creative Industries department has received the ultimate accolade after being selected to offer qualifications from Europe’s largest specialist arts and design university.
The college will become one of only two in the Midlands to offer the full range of courses accredited by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body, including Art and Design, Photography, Fashion, Creative Media, Games Design, Music and Performing Arts.
The UAL Awarding Body is part of the University of the Arts London, made up of six distinctive and distinguished colleges, including Central Saint Martins and the London College of Fashion.
Curriculum manager Michael Dixon said: “UAL is a hugely respected university and was recently ranked in the top five universities in the world for its creative degrees. It is a huge honour to be approved by the UAL awarding body to offer their qualifications, and this announcement not only demonstrates our commitment to providing the very best creative sector education and training for our students but also the great reputation the college has nationwide.
“By studying with us students will now gain a qualification that is highly regarded not just nationally but worldwide, standing them in good stead when they embark on their careers.”
Deputy Director of UAL Awarding Body Ross Anderson said: “We are selective about who we work with, and seek to identify institutions who are innovative, creative and committed to arts education.
“UAL Awarding Body are proud to work in partnership with Wolverhampton College. The college has been through a rigorous approval process that ensures that their qualifications are delivered and assessed against challenging national standards.”
University of the Arts London Awarding Body is a specialist awarding body offering qualifications in the creative arts, with an emphasis on art, design and communication. It has been approved by Ofqual to develop and award qualifications in the new Qualifications & Credit Framework (QCF). It is owned by, and based within, University of the Arts London.
UAL Awarding Body is regulated by Ofqual and currently offers accredited qualifications in art and design, fashion, creative media, music and performing and production arts. It is Europe’s largest specialist art and design university, comprising six renowned Colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts.
