2016 Future Manufacturing Awards

An engineering apprentice studying for his qualifications at City of Wolverhampton College is in the running for a prestigious industry award.

Ricki Power, aged 23, who combines working for precision component manufacturer Berck Limited with studying for a HNC in mechanical engineering at the college, has made it through to the regional finals of the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards.

Ricki, who was nominated for the award by his employer, was shortlisted after impressing judges at an interview held earlier this month and will find out whether he has made it through to the national finals at a regional awards ceremony in November.

Ricki said: “I’m delighted to have made it through to the regional finals and am really grateful to my employer and tutors at the college for all the support they have given me throughout my training.  An apprenticeship is a great way of gaining practical working knowledge alongside your qualifications and choosing to learn in this way is the best decision I’ve made.”

Those successful in the regional rounds will go forward to the national final and the overall award winner will be announced at the EEF national gala dinner in January 2017.
