Plumbing apprentices

Whether you’re due to leave school in the summer and are unsure of your next steps, are already employed and want to improve your promotion prospects, or want to change direction and retrain for a new career, City of Wolverhampton College will help you to learn, achieve and succeed.

With over 300 courses on offer and industry-standard training facilities giving you on-the-job experience while you’re learning, you won’t just get a qualification but develop the skills you need to impress employers and go on to a great future career.

If you want to go to university, learn a trade, train as a hairdresser, beautician or chef, become an accountant, engineer, teaching assistant or journalist, or gain the qualifications needed to work in the health, sport, music or travel industry, there’s a course for you!

And if you want to go straight into work but are keen to carry on studying, doing an apprenticeship will allow you to earn while you learn by combining working in a real job with gaining your qualifications at college.

Trainee plumbers Tom Wilkes (left), aged 16, and Jack Fellows, 17, have both taken great strides towards their future careers since joining the college in September 2015.  Having shown prowess on the Level 1 diploma in plumbing they were soon moved up to the Level 2 diploma and, after impressing managers at the companies where they completed work experience placements as part of the course, were both offered apprenticeships.

Tom, who works for Three Pines Building Company Ltd, said “An apprenticeship is good as it gives you work experience and a wage, and you learn on the job and solve problems as you go along instead of simply being shown what to do.”

Jack, who is employed by E-Plan Energy Ltd, added: “Doing an apprenticeship gives you so much experience. If I apply for a job in the future I will already have a good background in the industry so I’ll have a better chance of being offered a position.”
