HAIRDRESSER’S STYLE IS A REAL PICTURE

The styling skills of a trainee hairdresser at City of Wolverhampton College have led her to the regional finals of a national competition.

Rukshana Khanom, aged 20, a hairdressing apprentice at the college’s Academy training salon, has made it through to the regional round of the Wella Xposure 2017 contest.

For the first round of the competition Rukshana had to submit a photograph of a hairstyle she had created and her entry of a wavy, layered cut, coloured red at the roots graduating to yellow on the ends – which took around four hours to complete – gained her a place in the Midlands regional heat.

Rukshana, who combines working in the salon with studying for a Level 3 diploma in hairdressing, said: “I spent a lot of time researching the latest trends and developed the look based on the colours in a sunset.

“I worked really hard to ensure that the cut and colour were just as I wanted and was totally overwhelmed when I found out that I’d made it through to the next stage of the competition!”

She will now compete in front of judges in the college category of the regional heat on April 26 with winners going forward to the prestigious UK final later in the year.

The picture shows Rukshana’s model’s hair when she arrrived at the salon and after having it cut and coloured.
