Jobseekers on path to success

Wolverhampton jobseekers are on the path to success, thanks to a new course that could see them land jobs at a pub in the city centre.

A total of 14 people have just completed the week long course, which was launched by City of Wolverhampton College in partnership with JobCentre Plus to help recruit staff for Wetherspoon’s “The Moon Under Water.”

Over a four day training course, students were given guidance on customer service skills and food hygiene, as well as CV writing and interview techniques. Their final day was spent being interviewed for a range of bar and kitchen vacancies.

Participant Dannii Cray, age 24, said: “When the course came through from the Jobcentre I jumped at it, as I had been out of work for two months. It’s been really useful and helped me build my confidence and talk to new people.”

The programme was offered as part of the Sector Based Work Academy, a government initiative aimed at getting people who are receiving benefits into employment as well as helping businesses to obtain high quality staff with the right skills for the job.
