STAFF MEMBER RECOGNISED FOR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE TRAVEL
A member of staff from City of Wolverhampton College has been recognised for her commitment to sustainable travel.
Student Projects Officer Lucy Bennett was presented with the Travel Co-ordinator award by Centro, the public transport delivery body, for her work promoting sustainable travel to 3,500 students over three of the college’s campuses.
Lucy supported the organisation’s Smart Network Smarter Choices Programme, which is designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve health and wellbeing through use of active travel options such as cycling and walking.
As part of her role she introduced pool bikes, which students could hire to help them travel to and from college.
She also organised walk leader training for more than 70 Uniformed Public Services students, and invited in a DR Bike mechanic to check staff and students bikes.
Lucy said: “It was lovely to receive the award and be recognised for my work. I have enjoyed working with Centro and look forward to building on that partnership in the future.”
Presenting the award, Sustainable Travel Officer Dave Hackney said: “Lucy has really helped to drive the project forward. She has faced challenges with determination, and has been a pleasure to work with.”
