Travel students experience world of work

Students from City of Wolverhampton College are enjoying a taste of the travel industry, after teaming up with the UK’s largest hotel chain.

The group of 22 students, who are all studying for their Level 3 in Travel and Tourism, have spent a week learning the ropes at Premier Inn hotels across the Black Country.

Their placement involved housekeeping and reception duties, as well as working in the restaurant.

Lecturer Helen Spiteri said: “This experience enabled students to experience hotel management first hand, put their studies into context and build the customer service skills they will need in their future careers.

“Our industry links with employers such as Premier Inns are a vital part of the student experience and have proven very successful in helping learners onto the career ladder. In fact, quite a few students secure jobs from their work experience.”
