STUDENTS FILM BBC MUSIC VIDEO
1st December 2017
Talented students from City of Wolverhampton College are putting their creative skills to good use by producing a music video for the BBC.
The students – who are studying for qualifications in live sound and events, media and photography – have been asked to film a promotional video for Sugathief, a four-piece band, as part of the BBC Introducing scheme.
The gig comes after students on the same courses last year were asked to produce films for local bands Kioko and Venkman.
Students studying for a diploma in live sound and events will take charge of the lighting design, staging, live sound and audio recording of the Sugarthief performance, media students will film the live music video, and those studying for photography qualifications will capture still images of the event.
Filming will take place at The Slade Rooms, in Wolverhampton city centre, on Tuesday 5 December and footage will then be mixed and edited by the students and sent to the BBC to be uploaded and viewed through the iPlayer platform.
Jo Slater, curriculum manager for music at the college, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to put their technical skills to the test and work with a real band on such a prestigious scheme as BBC Introducing.
“They should be very proud to be involved in the project and the experience will look great on their CVs when they are applying for jobs in the industry in the future.
Sugarthief, formed in 2015, are well-known in local music circles for the tracks New Ends, Crowing Youth, Joy Affair, When Did It All Go So Wrong? and Provide. The have had regular stints on BBC WM Introducing and Amazing Radio and have performed at the Sunflower Lounge, Mailbox and Beyond the Tracks Festival in Birmingham.
BBC Introducing was created in 2007 to support unsigned, undiscovered and under the radar musicians with the aim of giving exposure to the freshest artists across the UK, with music played on local and national BBC Radio shows, broadcast throughout the UK every week.
The film the students produced for Kioko can be viewed here.
