STUDENTS GET AHEAD THANKS TO NEW COURSE
Teenagers across the city have gained a head start in their careers, after completing a new course being offered by City of Wolverhampton College.
The youngsters, who are all aged between 16 and 18, have just completed a Get Ahead Programme with the college’s Community, Employability and Traineeship team, to help them decide on their next steps.
Over the last five weeks the students have gained the skills they need to succeed at interview and impress future employers. They achieved qualifications in Active Citizenship, team work and presentation skills and worked on their CVs.
Caitlin Green, age 17, said: “The course was really good and one of the most fun experiences I have ever had.
“The team building activities have really helped build my confidence and I’m now ready to move on to a traineeship.”
Head of Work Based Learning Glynis Partis said: “It’s great to see so many students come on this programme and achieve so much in just five weeks.
“Many of them are now moving on to other courses, including the Prince’s Trust and traineeships.”
The Get Ahead programme aims to give 16-18 year olds not in education, employment or training, the opportunity to try new activities and to make steps towards a positive future.
