STUDENTS HELP WITH CANAL RESTORATION
Engineering students from City of Wolverhampton College have kicked off the new term by sprucing up the tow path on the Lichfield and Hatherton Canal.
The students, who are studying for Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in mechanical engineering, worked alongside their new classmates spreading hardcore along a half-mile stretch of the path, as part of an ongoing restoration scheme, as well as visiting the canal aqueduct which crosses the M6 Toll road.
The project was organised to show students the type of work involved in civil engineering projects, as well as develop their team work and communication skills, and highlight volunteering opportunities in the local community.
Students will be returning to the site to complete work on their section over the coming weeks, with further groups planning to carry out similar work throughout the academic year.
The college runs a range of maintenance, manufacturing, materials and mechanical engineering courses – for details click here or call 01902 836000.
