Artsfest keeps students in the spotlight

Talented students from City of Wolverhampton College are preparing to step into the spotlight as part of a new Wolverhampton arts festival.

Twenty students on the Level 2, Level 3 and HND in Performing Arts will be performing in Aristotle’s Chairs, at The Performance Hub, Walsall Campus, on May 13 between 11am and midday.

The art installation is part of Artsfest, a five week festival organised by the University of Wolverhampton, to celebrate the creative and cultural life of the region.

Aristotle’s Chairs explores the performative potentials of twenty identical chairs set in a symmetrical pattern, and twenty performers. Four sets of twenty performers, over a period of four hours, will tread the boards.

Lecturer Ruth Gavin said: “The students will be using the chairs for inspiration, to perform in front of their audience – there are no rehearsals for this, so anything can happen!”

Artsfest takes place from 9 May to 13 June at a range of venues across the Black Country. Activities include dance, theatre and musical performances, art exhibitions, workshops and master classes and education events for schools and college groups.
