STUDENTS TO CUT IT ON WORK EXPERIENCE IN PORTUGAL
Hairdressing and beauty students from City of Wolverhampton College are packing their scissors and make-up brushes as they head off to Portugal for two weeks’ work experience.
A group of 13 students who are studying for Level 2 and 3 hair and beauty qualifications at the college’s Metro One campus will be spending a fortnight working in the salons and spas of the ancient city of Braga.
The students will be working alongside qualified Portuguese hair stylists and beauticians to learn about the different techniques and skills used in the country, as well as finding out about job opportunities abroad that will be available when they have completed their qualifications.
Student Zoe Cooper, who is studying for the Level 3 diploma in beauty therapy, said: “The placements will be an opportunity for us to gain further experience of working with customers in busy commercial salons, as well as giving us the chance to demonstrate the skills we are learning on our courses to our Portuguese colleagues.”
To prepare for their placements the students took part in cultural and language workshops to learn about the history and customs of the country and how to communicate with their customers and colleagues.
The trip has been organised through the Erasmus+ scheme which enables students and organisations across Europe to work together to improve and develop skills in the future workforce.
The students will be in Braga from May 25 to June 11 and will be accompanied by two members of staff.
