Trip of a Lifetime for Wolverhampton Student
A teenager from Wolverhampton is jetting off to India this Summer after being selected to take part in an educational scheme started by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Reece Farrington-Welch, an A level student at City of Wolverhampton College, is one of just 100 young people nationwide to have earned a place on the Global Fellowship scheme.
The 18-year-old flies out on July 16 for six weeks in India, first learning the language and immersing himself in the culture, before working as a guest of a multi-national company. Reece will also spend two weeks living with a host family and working in a nearby school.
Reece said: “I was in complete shock when I found out I was going, but am delighted. It’s going to be the opportunity of a lifetime.
“Around 6,000 people applied to the programme and of the 100 selected just 30 were chosen to go to India.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how health care in India differs from that in England. Hopefully I will be able to use my experiences in my future career.”
The all-expenses paid programme aims to give young people the chance to visit one of the major countries of the new global economy - Brazil, China and India - and discover what role the developed world can play.
Reece is currently sitting AS Level exams in Health and Social Care and Psychology.
