Passport To Success For Travel Students
Travel students at City of Wolverhampton College are flying high after landing jobs before their course has even finished.
More than half of students on the NVQ Level 2 in Travel and Tourism have embarked on their careers in the travel industry while still studying at the college.
Among those is Sinead Straker, aged 18, who now works for Co-op Travel’s call centre in Walsall.
She said: “When I started the course I never thought I would get a job so quickly, but what I learnt at college really helped with my interview.”
Students Sukhdeep Bratch, 29, and Ravina Kaur, 20, have joined Sinead at the call centre.
Sukhdeep said: “Since the age of 16 I have wanted to work in Travel and Tourism so I was delighted to get a job.”
Ravina added: “I was gobsmacked to get a job. I love travel and everything about it, and would like to eventually become a manager of a travel shop.”
Student Hayley Warrender has also found work at Co-op’s Finchfield branch.
Programme Co-ordinator for Sport and Tourism Debbie Illidge said: “It’s a tremendous achievement to have so many of our students being offered jobs before their course has finished and is testament to all the hard work they have put in over the year.”
The Travel Academy is run in-conjunction with Midcounties Co-operative Travel. As part of the partnership students are guaranteed an interview with the travel agency at the end of their course.
City of Wolverhampton College is now recruiting for its travel and tourism courses starting in September. For more information ring College Direct on 01902 836000.
