Hayley Farr, who studies at City of Wolverhampton College, was named West Midlands Advanced Apprentice of the Year at the event, which was held at the Hippodrome in Birmingham on Friday June 18 and hosted by the TV presenter Suzanne Virdee.

Referrals Coordinator Hayley, who works at C&S Care Services in Wolverhampton, is described as a great role model for all young people starting out on a career. The 24-year-old liaises with social workers to arrange packages of care for people who need help and has become so helpful to the social workers that the company’s contracted hours have risen significantly.

Hayley, who studied Customer Service at City of Wolverhampton College, said: “I was shocked to win because there were so many good candidates.

“The Apprenticeship has given me so much more confidence, and my role has changed dramatically, as I have been given more responsibility.

“By doing the NVQ my boss could see where I was excelling and helped me develop my role accordingly. In just a few years I have gone from office administrator to referral coordinator, responsible for implementing care for people who need it, as well as supervising junior members of staff.”

Stephen Lilley, the West Midlands Regional Director of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: “All the winners are fantastic examples of the value of Apprenticeships to individuals, employers and the region. They all deserve enormous credit for their achievements.”

Miranda Barnes, Territory Business Manager at City & Guilds, said: “The Awards are a fantastic way to celebrate the hard work and dedication of individuals and employers.

“We have supported the Apprenticeship Awards for a number of years and it’s always a joy to be at the ceremonies and celebrate these effective training programmes and talented individuals. The West Midlands has long-term success with Apprenticeships and this year has been no exception.”
