Volunteers Get Recognised

Volunteers get recognised for their hard work.Volunteers from across the college were recognised for giving up their time at a special celebration event this Summer.

Dozens of students gathered at the Paget Road campus to pick up certificates for their work across the college and beyond.

Students that were acknowledged on the day included peer mentors, members of the student council and student union executive, charity fund raisers, student voice volunteers and prevocational class reps.

The event also marked the end of the first year of volunteering for Vtalent students. The 15 students have each spent 44 weeks working in an area of their choice, controlling and managing a project and contributing to the services for young people in the city.

Projects include working with Public Services to help prevent knife crime, making more young people aware of the effects of binge drinking, encouraging young people to volunteer with National Trust and promoting health and fitness through setting up a series of sports sessions.

Student Liaison Coordinator Bronach McNally-Grewal said: “Each year hundreds of our students give up their free time to help enhance their community and organise evens and activities within the college.

“This event was a great opportunity to thank these students for all their hard work.”
