Apprenticeship Employers Proud to Wear Badge
Businesses across the region are showing their commitment to Apprentices by signing up to a new employers’ badge.
City of Wolverhampton College, which runs one of the largest Apprenticeship programmes in the Midlands, has been encouraging companies from a wide range of sectors to display the badge and showcase their support for people undertaking the valuable programme.
In return their logos are displayed on the Apprenticeship website, where potential customers can see which companies are supporting training for young people.
Employers signed up to the campaign include accountancy firm Lancaster Clements, construction company Bullock, Nicholas Davis Hair & Beauty and engineering companies Thyssen Krupp Tallent and Mann & Hummell.
The employers’ badges were developed in response to consumer demand after research showed that 64% of consumers would use a register enabling them to choose a business that hires apprentices and over 80% of people are more likely to use a business if it offers Apprenticeships to young people.
Simon Waugh, Chief Executive of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: “Recent research shows a high majority of consumers prefer businesses who take on apprentices and many would support a register which displays this commitment.
“The badge scheme demonstrates which businesses support young people through offering Apprenticeships and will provide a service for consumers to choose. The scheme will add to the numerous benefits Apprentices bring to a business.”
The badge, supported by the British Chambers of Commerce and which can be used by all employers who take on apprentices, can be displayed on company websites or stationery to highlight their support for young people undertaking this programme.
The college’s Business Development Manager Karen Riley said: “We already know that Apprentices are good for business, helping to increase efficiency, productivity and providing a sound investment for the future. Now it’s encouraging to see consumers are asking for Apprentices and choosing to use a business which supports young people over one which doesn’t.”
