Budding Entrepreneurs Make their mark in Business
Budding entrepreneurs from City of Wolverhampton College made their mark in the business world when they were shortlisted for a national enterprise competition.
Media students Sean McLachlan, Vikki Quarry, Charlotte Howells, Kayleigh Gooden and Lewis Crawford made it through to the regional finals of the Make Your Mark Challenge 2009, the UK’s largest one-day enterprise competition for schools and colleges.
As part of the event the team had been tasked to come up with their most exciting business ideas in response to the brief “local inspiration leading to cool creation,” and pitch their ideas in front of a panel of judges from the local business community.
Their idea for “Wolves Fest,” a music and comedy festival for young people in West Park, proved a hit with judges and they were put forward to the regional competition, which was held at Garden Organic, Coventry, on December 1.
The team competed against nine other teams from the region, and although they did not win their idea has won the backing of business figures from across the city.
Vice Principal for Business Strategy and External Relations Bhanu Dhir said: “Over 70,000 students participated this year so our students did exceptionally well to reach this stage.
“The team has received a lot of interest from the council and business groups and hopefully we can turn this idea into reality.”
The Make Your Mark Challenge formed part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, a worldwide movement of entrepreneurial people, with millions unleashing their enterprising talents and turning their ideas into reality.
