Creative Arts Summer School

Unemployed young people in Wolverhampton are being offered an opportunity to take part in a feature film as part of a unique summer school on offer at City of Wolverhampton College.

Mediacove, a media production and training company based in the college, has organised a four week programme of practical arts and media training and activities for those not in employment, education or training (NEET) and aged 16-18.

Participants will spend a week working with the British Youth Film Academy on an exciting feature film that is being filmed in Wolverhampton over the summer.

Elke Theissl, Managing Producer, Mediacove, said: “Chances to be part of a feature film don’t come along every day! Not only will the young people be getting useful new skills, they will also be gaining experiences that will help them get back into work or education.”

The young people will also be able to get experience of dance, drama, video, animation, photography and graphic design, and work towards their bronze level Arts Award.

Elke added: “Creative arts offer a wealth of opportunities to re-engage young people in education. Learning is about much more than classrooms and books.”

The summer school starts in July and sessions will be held Monday- Friday 9am to 3.30pm.

An allowance of £15 per week is available to cover travel expenses to enable as many people as possible to access the programme.
