First Learners Complete Training at New Centre

A group of students left without a training provider when Polymer Training Limited went into administration have completed their programme through the new Polymer Training and Innovation Centre (PTIC).

The 28 trainees, from car manufacturers Calsonic Kansei, have become the first batch of learners to gain their qualification with the new Telford based training academy.

They all successfully completed their NVQ Level 2 in Injection Moulding this month.

Learners from across the country were left midway through their training programme when Polymer Training Limited went into administration in October last year.

However, City of Wolverhampton College stepped in to ensure they were able to complete their qualification. The college purchased assets of the company, including a wide range of specialist plant, all of its training materials and intellectual property and opened a new training centre at Stafford Park, Telford.

The move enabled more than 100 learners to complete their qualification.

Trevor Metcalfe, from Calsonic Kansei, said: “This training was essential for Calsonic Kansei, as we look to developing the business and moving into cellular manufacturing, and without the support of the college our staff would have been unable to complete their programme.

“The training was fantastic and I have heard nothing but glowing reports from the guys that were on it.

“We plan to continue using PTIC for our training and have another batch going through later in the year.”
