Plastics Industry Shows Support for PTIC

The Polymer Training and Innovation Centre (PTIC), the UK’s newest training academy for the Polymer Industry, has been warmly welcomed by the plastics industry, with companies from around the country pledging their support.

The new training academy, based in Telford, has already enlisted the support of Unilever, Total Petrochemicals and Formech, who have all donated materials and equipment in return for being recognised as sponsors.

Multinational corporation Unilever has loaned mould tools and will also be using the training facilities for their staff, delivering bespoke courses in injection moulding for their global workforce.

Thermoforming manufacturers Formech have installed two vacuum forming machines in the new training centre. The machines will be used to support Level 2 NVQ programmes in Polymer Processing and Related Ops.

Sales and Development Manager Martin Smith, from Formech, said: “It’s essential that students experience and familiarise themselves with the latest thermoforming technologies and Formech is committed to assist the PTIC in making their new training academy a real success.”

Sponsors Total Petrochemicals, one of the world’s leading petrochemicals producers, is supplying the centre with a range of polymer material.

Total Petrochemicals’ Andrew Feldman, said: “Total Petrochemicals is delighted to see that a centre for technical expertise has been re-established. This will help polymer converters and their customers achieve the full benefits that plastics components provide to society as a whole.”

Operations Manager for PTIC Charmaine Bowers added: “We are delighted to have these companies on board. These partnerships with three of the leading plastics companies are a great endorsement and recognition of the high quality training on offer at the new PTIC.”
