Young People Give New Lease of Life to Community Centre

Young people on a personal development programme have rolled up their sleeves to give a new lease of life to a community centre in Graisley.

The group of students have given the Jubilee Community Support Centre (JCSC), Merridale Street, a complete overhaul, as part of a 12 week Prince’s Trust Team Programme, delivered by City of Wolverhampton College.

Working with managers and users of the centre, the group gave the centre a fresh new interior and an updated paint scheme. They cleared and redecorated the basement, providing a new space, called Elite, for young people to meet.

Team Leader Chris Willetts said: “It was an ambitious project and there was a lot of work that needed to be done. My team have really risen to the occasion and their determined efforts have made me very proud.”

Maxine Douglas, JCSC Project Development Manager, said that the input from The Princes Trust had been a complete asset to the planning and development of Elite.

She said: “The young people that have worked on this project have worked with incredible passionate - they are absolutely amazing.

“The level of work needed just to kick start the project was a huge challenge for me, but the Princes Trust made a daunting problem into a complete success. “

Bishop Llewellyn Graham from Jubilee Christian Centre added: “It was delightful to see the enthusiasm of all the young people involved in the work and I would like to thank them on behalf of the church and community support centre for their fund raising efforts and voluntary labour.

“I hope that in some small way that we will be able to repay this debt of gratitude by way of an input in their continued personal development and growth.”
