Wolverhampton Students Say “Hear Hear” to Visit from Local MP
City of Wolverhampton College Students got to learn how parliament works first hand after receiving a visit from local MP Emma Reynolds, who represents Wolverhampton North East.
The MP was invited to speak to students, who are all studying for a Level 3 BTEC in Social Policy, Health and Social Care at the Paget Road Campus. She explained how the parliamentary process worked with particular relevance to the Health and Social Care bill, which is still to be passed. Ms Reynolds then took questions from the students which ranged from the way the government works to housing and even how much MP’s earn!
Lorna Allen Lecturer in Health and Social Care said. “The students found this to be a very useful session. It was fascinating to hear how parliament really works and about the Health and Social Care Bill. Especially, what this may mean for our students in their future careers.
“The question and answer session was very lively and the students raised some interesting points. It is not every day; they get the opportunity to quiz a member of parliament. I should like to thank Ms Reynolds for taking time out of her busy schedule to come and meet the students.”
Emma Reynolds MP “I was very pleased to be invited to speak to students at Wolverhampton College today. From the lively discussion we had, it is clear that young people have very strong views on issues which are affecting them, like the cuts to EMA, the rise in tuition fees and the need for more jobs in Wolverhampton. As a local MP and I determined to make sure that their views are heard in Parliament.”
The Level 3 BTEC is a full time course, which prepares students for a career in the caring profession. They study a variety of subjects including, Promoting Health and Well Being, Public Health, as well being able to combine this with specific AS levels including, Biology and Psychology.
