Students Dig Deep for Gym Goers

Students Brian Trubshaw, Amy Simpson and Sam Willis put the finishing touches to the climbing wallStudents at City of Wolverhampton College have dug in to create an assault course for gym goers.

The Level 3 Horticulture students designed and built the obstacle course at Chris Jewkes Fitness Centre in Tettenhall.

The impressive outdoor gym features a climbing wall, camouflage netting to crawl under and bench presses.

Lecturer Andrew Castle said: “The assault course was a great project for students, who were given a client brief and then asked to design and build equipment fit for the job.

“It has really helped them put theory into practice and work on a real project that will be used by the community.”

Owner Chris Jewkes said: “It has been a real pleasure to work with the students because they have been so professional.

“We aim to use the assault course on a one-to-one basis with clients and also as part of our boot camp classes. We also have more and more requests from football and rugby clubs to use our facilities so this will be great for them.”
