Music Students Go Backstage
Music students from City of Wolverhampton College will be treading in the footsteps of pop idols and rockstars when they go behind the scenes at a live music event.
The Foundation Degree students will be backstage at Duran Duran’s LG Arena show in Birmingham on December 2 to discover the work that goes into putting on a performance on a grand scale.
The Production Day Visit has been organised byThe National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural to demonstrate the huge importance of backstage and technical staff in bringing a live music event together and encourage more young people to think about a career in the industry.
The students will spend a morning front of house learning about the roles and responsibilities involved in putting together shows on this scale, gaining a clearer understanding of career options in the live music sector and the skills and training involved.
“Finding people who want to work in the music industry isn’t the hard part,” said Paul Latham, Head of Live Nation and Chair of the Skills Academy. “This is an attractive industry with many a young person wanting to work in it. But it's a different matter finding the right person, with the right skills and attitude. These Production Day Visits will give these students a real insight into what it takes to put on a world-class show.”
Michael Dixon, the college’s Programme Coordinator for the Creative Arts added: “This exciting visit will give students a feel for the realities of rigging through to preparing safety barriers for these sell-out gigs, demonstrating the creative, star-studded backstage jobs that are out there!”
The Production Days are open to students from the National Skills Academy’s 20 Founder Further Education Colleges. As a founder college, City of Wolverhampton College has been selected to help raise the profile of the UK’s creative industries and support more young people wanting to enter the sector.
