College Recognised for Encouraging Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow!
City of Wolverhampton College has received national recognition for its work in encouraging young people to tap into their entrepreneurial spirit.
The college has been awarded the High Impact Badge of Honour to acknowledge the important contribution they are making to global entrepreneurship.
During this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week, which took place from November 14 to 18, the college hosted a number of activities to encourage students to think about entrepreneurship and their ability to be enterprising.
These included a gadget show challenge, where business students were challenged to put together a business plan for a small business selling electrical goods. The students had to research their items and visit local retailers before deciding on the viability of their business.
Media buffs also had the chance to compete in an ad challenge, and given just one week to film a three minute advertisement to promote a designated product.
Other activities included a bread and cake sale by catering students, a raffle and flower sale by floristry students, a jewellery sale by adult retail students and travel promotions.
Employability and Enterprise Co-ordinator Amy Gardiner said: “For many students, it has never occurred to them to start up their own business. Global Entrepreneurship Week gives students the chance to broaden their horizons and explore all the options that are available when they leave college.
“The week not only encourages young people to turn their enterprise ideas into action but helps them to develop the skills and attitudes they will need to succeed.”
Global Entrepreneurship Week is now in its seventh year. Each year more than 100 countries take part in thousands of events to mark the week. The High Impact ‘Badge of Honour’ is awarded by organisers Youth Business International to highlight the best events.
