Student Jets off to China
A City of Wolverhampton College business student has jetted off to China to find out how people live on the other side of the world.
Mom-of-two Vikki Lowe, who is enrolled on a part-time Foundation degree in Business Management, which is offered in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton, spent two weeks in China learning the language and way of life.
The trip was a study programme open to students from the university. The group spent time in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Beijing.
Vikki said: “Studying has opened up opportunities I never could’ve imagined. The trip to China was a once in a life-time opportunity and I learnt so much, not only education wise but about myself too. It really opened my eyes to the way of life in China as well as how they study there.”
Vikki progressed on to the Foundation degree after completing her NVQ Level three in Customer Service and ITQ. She’s currently employed as an Administration Assistant in the Logistics Department at HS Marston Aerospace Limited.
She added: “I decided to enrol on an evening foundation degree at the college to further my studies. Studying for a degree and working full-time can be difficult with two young children to look after. The course works for me because it fits around both my work and family life.
“The course has given me significant knowledge and understanding of the business environment. My role at HS Marston varies from processing orders, liaising with customers, as well as working in despatch and exports, where I have contact with clients across the UK and worldwide. I’ve been able to apply what I’ve learned on the course, to my job, which has increased my confidence in my ability to carry out my role.
“I hope to continue with my education and achieve a bachelor’s degree in the next few years and progress further in my career.”
