Jobs Scheme Leads to Permanent Employment
A job scheme designed to give young people vital work skills has been a huge success for one participant, after it led to permanent employment.
Emily Thompson, aged 24, joined the Future Jobs Fund (FJF) scheme, offered by City of Wolverhampton College, after struggling to find work.
She was offered a six month placement as a receptionist with the Beacon Centre for the Blind, along with the chance to study for her NVQ level 3 in Business and Administration through the college. Once her placement finished she was delighted to be offered permanent employment and is now the Lead Administrator for the charity.
Emily said: “I was unsuccessful in finding employment due to the fact I didn’t have much work experience which led to me being unemployed for quite a while and lacking in confidence.
“Thanks to the FJF scheme I have gained a great deal of experience and confidence, as well as a qualification and a job I love. Without the scheme this wouldn’t have been possible - the help I received was invaluable, and has changed my life.”
The Future Jobs Fund was a government funded programme that aimed to create 150,000 jobs across the UK for young people who had been unemployed for over six months.
