Teenagers Get Step Ahead
Teenagers in Wolverhampton have the chance to get a Step Ahead with the help of a special course designed to prepare them for further education, training or work.
The Get it On programme, run through City of Wolverhampton College, aims to encourage 16 to 18-year-olds who are not in employment, education or training to gain the skills they need to succeed.
As part of the eight week course youngsters take part in a number of activities designed to increase their aspirations and boost confidence. These include archery, abseiling, rock climbing, survival and bush craft skills and basic first aid.
Students will also gain Employability skills such as CV building and interview techniques.
Sharron Redman, Project Manager at City of Wolverhampton College, said: “This programme aims to motivate and raise the aspirations of young people by giving them the opportunity to learn new skills and try new experiences.”
The Get it On course is being run in partnership with Steps to Work as part of their Step Ahead programme and is funded by the European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency.
