The PTIC Team
The technical team employed by PTIC have been involved in the delivery of training and consultancy support for UK and internationally based polymer processing companies for over 40 years.
Since the original organisation was created as an Industry Training Board in 1975 they have worked with various blue chip multi-nationals to push the boundaries of polymer processing. The unique advantage of working with PTIC is their strength through diversity and experience of the staff they employ.
Steve Harratt
Holding an MSC in Polymer Technology awarded through Loughborough University Steve worked for PTL in both technical and commercial roles for 12 years but has been involved in plastic component manufacturing for over 25 years. As a Production Engineer, Steve has been involved in project management and tooling / equipment procurement and installation, a discipline which also involves tool trials. Steve specialises in smaller component manufacture using engineering polymers where extended product life and exacting design tolerances need to be maintained.
Bill Mountain
With now over 35 years involvement in the polymer industry there is very little that Bill has not already experienced. Having held senior Technical and Managerial roles at various trade injection moulding companies he was also Senior Technical Consultant at PTL. Having now moved over to manage NVQ delivery activities, this provides him with a unrivalled ability to identify what production based skills are required in order to improve product quality and reliability of supply within any manufacturing/supply company.
Geoff Jordan
As well as teaching qualifications Geoff chose to specialise in the area of Business Improvement and as such hold a qualification of Level 2 BIT awarded through Skills 4 Auto’s. This area of expertise includes Lean Manufacturing techniques which remove none value added activity and reduce waste within the manufacturing processes and component supply chain.
Ian Francis
With almost 40 years in the polymer industry, including 20 years with PTL, Ian has been at the forefront of training course development. He holds an MSc in Manufacturing from the Open University and a Certificate in Education, with specialist knowledge of on-line and web based learning techniques. While most of his experience has been within the injection moulding sector he has completed various in-company projects utilizing high level quality techniques including Design of Experiments (DoE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC). He has also been heavily involved with business developments in overseas markets.
Graham Pickwell
Qualified up to degree level in Industrial Chemistry, through Hatfield Polytechnic, Graham gained his early polymer experiences (PE, PVC & PMMA) in South Africa working in product development, polymer manufacturing and polymer processing, as well as technical sales with an ICI subsidiary. On return to the UK, he held roles as Technical Sales Manager for both PP and Polymer Additives with several raw material supply companies. In manufacturing he was Technical & Quality Manager at a blown film company which supplied innovative packaging products. While at PTL Graham developed a number of specialised training courses for the packaging industry and is now certified by the Institute of Wastes Management (IWM) to present courses in Waste Awareness. This background experience provides a unique and broad knowledge of Polymer Materials and their uses in the Packaging Industry.
Roger Edenborough
Having held positions such as Senior Tooling Engineer and Tool Room Manager at various trade moulding companies, Roger has over 30 years experience in the development, design and manufacture of injection mould tools. Roger operated within PTL as Site Services Manager with a brief to reduce expenditure on the cost of supplied services. Costs in this area for manufacturing companies are currently rising fast and the ability to identify potential saving opportunities where rapid investment payback is available should not be discounted. Roger now works on an ad-hoc consultancy basis for PTIC.
Charmaine Bowers
Charmaine has joined PTIC as Operations Manager after spending nearly eight years as General Manager at PTL. Holding a degree in Business Management, Charmaine served in the army for 12 years all over Europe, Northern Ireland and the Falklands. She has five years experience in Personnel and Training roles within the printing, automotive and plastic industries, and an additional eight years in Manufacturing Production Management with specialist building products company Epwin.
Georgina Parker
Georgina Parker is the Director responsible for the PTIC. Georgina, who started her working life as an Apprentice on a YTS (Youth Training Scheme) and gained her MBA in 2008, has a passion for vocational training and joined the College in 2002 to grow its worked based learning provision. In 2008, she led on the acquisition of a private training provider and the subsequent development of the College's Telford Campus, which was launched in June 2009.
