Coaching, Teaching & Instructing - NVQ Level 2

These qualifications are primarily designed for those involved in coaching sports, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity. Each particular qualification relies upon the existence of a technical definition provided for the individual sports National Governing Body.

Course Details

This qualification aims to assess the competence of beginner coaches in a variety of sports including football, rugby, cricket, swimming, hockey, martial arts, gymnastics, trampolining, tennis, netball, basketball and boxing The qualifications aim to assess the competence of the coach, and will cover units around health and safety, as well as the planning, delivery and review of coaching sessions

Entry requirements

The candidate should be coaching in the specified sport.

While there are no formal entry requirements a good standard of literacy is required and prior experience within the leisure industry would be an advantage

Assessment

To achieve the full award candidates must complete both mandatory and optional units. Like all NVQs, this qualification is competency based. This means that it is linked to the candidates ability to competently perform a range of tasks in the workplace. Candidates plan a programme of development with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate they are knowledgeable and competent in their role.
