Instructing Exercise & Fitness - NVQ Level 2
This qualification is designed for people who are interested in working within the fitness industry as a Gym Instructor. Students must be capable of planning, delivering and evaluating sessions in the context of exercise and fitness.
Course Details
Core units include:
- deal with accidents and emergencies
- evaluate coaching sessions and develop personal
- coaching practice
- support participants in developing and maintaining fitness.
Optional Units include:
- plan and prepare a group exercise with music session
- instruct a group exercise with music session
- plan and prepare a gym-based exercise session
- instruct a gym-based exercise session.
Entry requirements
The candidate should be working in the leisure industry.
While there are no formal entry requirements a good standard of literacy is required and prior experience within the leisure industry would be an advantage.
Assessment
To achieve the full award candidates must complete four units, including three mandatory units and one optional unit.
Like all NVQs, this qualification is competence based.This means that it is linked to the candidate's ability to competently perform a range of tasks in the workplace. Candidates plan a programme of development with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate they are knowledgeable and competent in their work role.
Progression / Next Step
Teaching Exercise and Physical Activity NVQ Level 3 or employment within the fitness industry as a gym instructor.
