Access to HE Student Lerlene Cork
After being made redundant, 45-year-old Lerlene Cork decided to come back to college to study for a higher education qualification in either business or administration but knew she needed to improve her maths and English skills first.
Lerlene enrolled for a one-year Pre-Access to HE course – which she studies on a part-time basis at the college’s Welington Road campus – which will enable her to progress to the Access to HE course in September and then move on to a higher education qualification.
Lerlene said: “I realised I needed to improve my English and maths and the course is really helping with that. Maths is not my forte so I found it hard but the tutors are really supportive and everyone in the group helps each other out. On the other hand I’m good at English so I can use my skills to help others on the course with anything they’re not sure about.
“It’s never too late to change direction – I have and am finding studying challenging, stimulating and rewarding – I love it!”
