Access to HE Student Nobuhle Gumbo
Care worker Nobuhle Gumbo wants to become a mental health nurse but currently lacks the necessary qualifications to apply to university – and so came to college to learn skills to bridge the gap between her existing education and what is needed to study at degree level.
Mum-of-one Nobuhle, aged 33, said: “I had an assessment for the Access to Higher Education course but the tutor felt I needed to improve my maths and English skills first and recommended that I do the one-year Pre-Access course before moving on to the Access to HE course in September.
“It’s a really good course, I’ve learnt a lot about time management, assertiveness, working as part of a team and respecting others’ views, and my confidence has increased too.
“I’d certainly recommend this course to anyone who wants to go to university – learning is a process that never ends and it’s never too late to try something new.”
