Adult learner Jem Griffiths
Mature student Jem Griffiths decided to enrol on a sports coaching course at college to give him new skills and work experience in an industry that was new to him.
The 54-year-old said: “I had worked in manufacturing for 36 years, but after being out of work for a while decided to do the First Steps into Sports Coaching course to help me find work in a different area.
“I didn’t know what to expect coming into college but it’s been a pleasure and I have enjoyed it. I’ve done so many different things and have learnt a lot. I’ve been on placement and have volunteered for a walking football club, as well as learn about coaching principles, safe guarding, first aid and leadership.
“I would really encourage anyone to do a course like this. It gets you out of the house, you meet different people and it’s really interesting – and it can only help with getting a job.”
