Apprentices – Securefast


Security and Fire product manufacturer / distributor Securefast plc decided to take on two apprentices to fulfil new positions for the future and support their growing business.

Operations Director Kevin O Reilly said: “A couple of years ago  the company decided to plan for the future which would require extra staff to assist with the more demanding needs in the engineering and marketing areas of the business. Rather than employing someone to fit in with our needs we decided to take on a number of young persons to grow with the business over the coming years. These roles were new posts, so initially we only really needed someone on a part-time basis; therefore having apprentices was ideal, as we felt the roles could slowly develop into full-time positions, as they learnt new skills and took on more responsibility.

“In addition, many of our staff will be retiring within the next five to 10 years so the apprenticeship scheme helped us bring in younger talent.

“We have definitely seen benefits in taking on apprentices. Through our engineering apprentice we now have someone who understands 2D and 3D dimensional design and CAD, so we can do more design work in house and new product development. With our marketing apprentice we have been introduced to Facebook and e-commerce, and now offer regular promotions to our customers which means we do not have to use an outside source.

“Both have now been taken on as full-time members of staff.”
